Bloomsburg University Falls to Rider in Wrestling
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to Rider University, 23-20, on Saturday night in New Jersey.
The Huskies started quickly in the match getting a technical fall from 10th-ranked Mike Sees (Northumerberland/Shikellamy) at 125 pounds and a 10-5 decision from Ricky Donald (Millville/Bloomsburg) at 133 to go up 8-0.
The Broncs, though, rallied and won four of the next five bouts to take a 17-11 lead. The only win for the Huskies came at 157 pounds from Dennis Bermudez (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) who posted an 8-6 decision.
After Bloomsburg closed to within 17-14 with a win from Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Middleburg) at 184 pounds, Rider put the match away win a pin at 197 pounds. Bloomsburg's Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown), ranked 19th at heavyweight, posted a fall in just 50 seconds to bring the Huskies to within in three at the end, 23-20.
Bloomsburg, 4-5, will take part in the Virginia Duals next weekend.
